Our Leadership: Alicia Villarreal, President and CEO

Alicia Hinojosa Villarreal is a long time resident and community activist in Southwest Detroit. She holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration at the University of Michigan. She is the President and CEO of Latino Family Services, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization serving the Latino population and residents of Southwest Detroit since 1971. “Our primary goal is to develop and operate a service system, which assists and supports families in their efforts to improve their social, health and educational functioning; enhance their community environment; and increase economic self-sufficiency,” says Villarreal.
She has and continues to demonstrate her leadership through her recognitions and community involvements. She has recently been recognized as one of Michigan’s most influential Hispanics. Ms. Villarreal has received the 2005 Michiganian of the Year Award, 2003 National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Appreciation Award, Mexican American Engineers and Scientist Amiga Award (2001), the Vistas Nuevas, outstanding Community Service Award (2001) and the SER Metro Detroit, Journey to Success Award (200).
Her countless hours, determination and passion to service is demonstrated through her leadership at Latino Family Services and in the following involvements: Appointed by Governor Granholm for the Michigan Commission of Spanish Speaking Affiliate Council Representative to the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), Various Faith Based Community Initiatives, Chair of Joint Leadership Council of Southwest Detroit, Co-Chair of the IMPACT Steering Committee, W. Fort St. Business Association, City Year-Detroit, Board of Directors; NCLR Midwest Regional Council Representatives; Hispanic Advisory Council to the Detroit Public Schools and the City of Detroit; Blue Cross Blue Shield, Board of Directors; New Detroit, Trustee.
Ms. Kate Spratt, Chief Financial Officer

Kate Spratt applies her 10+ years of experience to provide a range of financial management services to LFS. Kate earned a BBA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1998 and a Nonprofit Management Certificate from Georgetown University. She later received her designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of Michigan. New to the organization, Ms. Spratt has designed accounting systems including the structure of chart of accounts, creation of executive management reports, and developing cost allocation methodologies.
Alfonso Bermea, Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Alfonso Bermea, Chief Operating Officer. Bermea is a licensed mental and behavioral specialist counselor. He has a long history working with the Latino population. Alfonso is nationally recognized for the research he conducted while with the Texas Youth Commission, working with violent and addicted youthful offenders who had committed murder. Prior to Latino Family Services Mr. Bermea served as the Chief Executive Officer of Neurotherapy Consultative Services, a private training and consultative company with national and international clients. He serves on various leadership and advisory councils including the DAAA and the Region 8 Poverty Reduction Group. Bermea has presented his research studies on neurofeedback and its impact on brain injuries.
